Where To Stay
Choosing where to stay all depends on the type of holiday you want. Are
you craving guaranteed sunshine or do you need to keep the kids happy too?
There really is something for everybody, so check out our tips and get whatever
you want from your holiday.
Golf Resorts
If your idea of a beautiful view is to look out over the 5th, then look
no further. Planned with the golf enthusiast in mind, we have a range of
destinations offering hotels on or near the golf course. Some even offer
free golf to really get your stay off to a great start.
If it’s Portugal you fancy then both Lisbon and the Algarve come
up trumps. The Marriott Hotel,
on the Lisbon coast near Obidos, boasts views of either the sea or the Praia
d’el Rey golf course. In the Algarve, Le
Meridien Penina, the Sheraton
Algarve, and Vila Sol Spa and
Golf Resort are minutes from internationally famous golf courses.
On the Spanish side, in the Costa
Del La Luz, the El Rompido
nestles alongside its own 18 hole golf course and the Puerto
Antilla Grand is only a short drive (or nip on the hotel shuttle bus!)
from the Islantilla golf course. The Costa
Del Sol has everything you would expect from a well developed resort,
not to mention some outstanding golf courses. La
Cala Resort is literally surrounded by La Cala North and La Cala South
courses, and the San Roque Club
is the home of the great Seve Ballesteros – need we say more.
The Almenara Golf Hotel & Spa is part of the Sotogrande estate boasting
a total of 5 golf courses.
A Family affair
If you have little ones who need to be entertained, then there are hotels
with great facilities for all the family, meaning you can tee off safe in
the knowledge that cries of “I’m booored” are a thing
of the past. Both Le Meridien Penina and Dona Filipa hotels in the Algarve
offer the Penguin club for kids and plenty of water sports and activities.
Alternatively the Atalaya Park in the Costa Del Sol has both a childrens
club and a veritable plethora of sports activities to keep you busy.
For the non golfer.
Perhaps all of your party isn’t as mad on golf as you are, but there
are plenty of hotels situated in areas with a whole lot more to offer than
great golf courses. Cyprus is
steeped in history, elegant architecture and or course, beautiful beaches.
The Lisbon coast is a cosmopolitan
area that still retains much of its charm and enjoys stunning scenery. Try
a wander through the narrow winding streets of Cascais, a day at Sintra
the medieval walled city up in the mountains, or sample the amazing shopping
in Lisbon itself.
Moving East, Turkey is home to
the amazing Kursunlu waterfalls, Aspendos, one of the most well preserved
Roman theatres in the world, and a host of mythical stories and sites.
Of course if you fancy going a bit further a field then combine some great
golfing with fabulous safaris in South
Africa. Cape town, South
Africa offers great tourist attractions and all the benefits of a beach
side city with a great climate. However if you want to fit in some animal
spotting between rounds, then head for the
Garden route for whale spotting, or Sun
City for fabulous resort facilities near a superb national park.
The quiet life
If you’re keen to get away from the hustle and bustle of every day
life and want some where tranquil, away from busy resort centers to relax
at, then there are plenty of peaceful options. To name but a few, the Hotel
Inglaterra on the Lisbon coast oozes Edwardian character and charm,
where as the Hotel Aigu Blava
on the Costa Brava has a cosy, welcoming feel to it. Casa
Velha set high on Madeira is a 5 star Relais & Chateaux Country
House Hotel and the Monte D’Oiro
and Costa D’Oiro in the
Algarve are friendly and relaxed.
Spoilt for choice
Some people just want it all, and you can have it – or at least access
to several superb golf courses near to your hotel. Many of our hotels are
situated within easy driving distance of several great courses, so here’s
a few to whet your appetite.
Vilamoura in the Central Algarve has 5 courses and wide range of hotels
to choose from. The Puerto Banus region of the Costa Del Sol has a vast
number of courses within easy reach as does Fuengirola. Tenerife has four
courses between Los Cristianos and Costa adeje not to mention year round
sunshine, and Pathos in Cyprus has a few nearby. For something a little
different Turkey is the up and coming option, with four courses within a
10km radius in one area alone.
Far flung shores
If you fancy somewhere further afield where you can still get your golf
in then there are some truly magnificent long haul options. Try a little
slice of heaven on the island of Mauritius
where unbelievable hotels sit near the beautiful Indian ocean and boast
championship golf courses. If its great wine, lovely scenery and the thrill
of a game drive you’re after then South
Africa is the answer, and a tailor made golf tour will leave lasting
memories. Generally regarded as the golfing capital of the world
Myrtle Beach in South Carolina is a golfers paradise. There’s
a great selection of accommodation on offer so you put together your own
holiday – with our help of course.
And finally, where else on earth could you get sunshine, great food, fabulous
nightlife, amazing golf courses with reasonable green fees and caddies for
around £3? Thailand.
