Cadiz is a port city that prides itself on its relaxed and friendly vibe, restaurants and bars are scattered amongst the streets in the central quarter and all are lively, welcoming and offer genuine Spanish cuisine at reasonable prices.
Cadiz's architecture is something to be admired, the 18th century Landward Gate, the Cathedrals and Churches of Santa Cruz and San Felipe Neri, the central quarter with its narrow cobbled streets and small squares, all of these features help give Cadiz a certain authentic charm and atmosphere that some Spanish holiday destinations now lack.
Culturally, Cadiz is one of the foremost Spanish cities. La Santa Gueva houses several of Goya's more famous works, and stately mansions like the Casa del Almirante and Casa de las Cadenas are well worth a visit.
The city is steeped in history too, in the 16th century Cadiz was the launching point for voyages to the New World, the city has since been attacked by such historical heavyweights as Sir Francis Drake and Napolean, and as a result of the latter's bombardment became the city where Spain's first constitution was declared in 1812.
The city also offers an excellent base to take advantage of Spain's infamous "Costa del Golf" as the Andalucia region is home to over 60 courses alone.
The Province, from a golfing angle, is really split into two or three mini regions! Firstly, looking at Jerez as a city break venue you have the opportunity to play the superb Sherry Golf, Montecastillo and the fabulous new Arcos Gardens course. Villa Neuva (another brand new course) and El Puerto are also very close and other good options. The beautiful town centre hotel of Monasterio de San Miguel in the delightful ancient town of El Puerto de Santa Maria is an excellent new alternative and close to El Puerto, Sherry Golf and Costa Ballena! Secondly travelling west of Jerez you have the option of staying at Rota - a lovely old port seaside town or the golf hotel at Costa Ballena where you can access 4 courses very easily - Ballena, El Puerto, Sherry Golf and San Lucar!
Finally, if you like staying on the beach at Novo Sancti Petri there are two new courses on stream, the Las Lomas will be open and ready by November 06 and will be a really classy extra course to this region to compliment the 36 holes at Novo Sancti Petri. The new Melia Sancti course has opened recently and is a great alternative. Staying in the seaside resort town of Novo you can also easily access Villa Nueva, Montenmedio and Benalup also! This adds up to 7 golf courses in easy drive and 4 within 5 minutes! The superb resort golf hotels of Montecastillo (now under Barcelo Premium) and Benalup, the only all inclusive 5 star in Spain, are the icing on the cake!
However, Arcos Gardens - 25 minutes drive from Montecastillo is the new shining light in Spain, a golf course of the class of a Valderrama. it is also accessible from Novo and Jerez - but would take 45 minutes to drive!

Set in a natural park on very high land, the course has wonderful vistas across miles and miles of wonderful countryside.
The course backs right onto the beach and is essentially a mix between a links and a La Manga style resort course with lots of palm trees.
Laid out over predominantly flat land through cork and fig trees, heavily bunkered fairways and greens with sweeping vistas across the local hills
