Cape Town Courses
The magnificently designed Arabella Golf Course is a favourite
of ours. It's challenging enought o bring you back for more, and enjoyable
enough to make you want to leave. It borders the largest natural lagoon
in South Africa, with the 18th running parallel to it. The clubhouse at
the hotel is considered by many to be one of the most luxurious and modern
in the country. The 17th par three has to be one of the all time best par
three holes, but every hole on this course is memorable. You are sure to
have your own favourite.
Spier Country Club, situated between Stellenbosch and Somerset
West, is the most recent addition to the Western Capes golf course selection.
The 18-hole, 6,385m layout was designed by leading golf course designer
Peter Matkovich, and he has created a course where shot makingis of the
utmost importance.
Translated into English, Paarl means "Pearl", which
well describes this golf course. With Paarl Rock, wine lands, farmlands
and a river all close to the course, it's a very pleasant place to play.
The course is lined with old trees and has excellently kept greens. It will
prove a challenge for the Big Hitters.
Surrounded by the winelands and under the gaze of the magnificent
Simonsberg Mountains, the Stellenbosch golf club is in near perfect location.
The tree-lined course provides a fairly narrow target at times and offers
a good test of your game. The name of the 8th hole, "Snakes and Grapes,
is a warning of the need to hit your shot straight!
Royal Cape is South Africa's oldest golf club and has hosted
8 South African Open Championships. The club was the first in Africa to
receive the Royal Standard in 1910. The parkland course is set in the beautiful
area of Constantia in Cape Town's southern suburbs. When the south-easterly
wind known as the Cape Doctor blows acroos the course the course you'll
need to be on top of your game to survive. The 18th green is well protected
by water, bunkers and out of bounds.
The 18-hole Steenberg championship golf course wanders leisuely
through the Steenberg vineyards, pine forests and gentle waterways. It is
in the heart of the Costantia Valley, and is the most recently built course
in Cape Town. The course works its way through the vineyards of the oldest
wine farm in South Africa and is renowned for its greens, particularly the
14th hole. It boasts the largest green in Africa - 72 meters from back to
front. Three putts anyone?
Clovelly is one of the finest courses in the Cape Peninsula
and is widely regarded as one of the most picturesque and challenging. It's
famous for its rolling fairways and undulating holes, and has a rich natural
environment. We've seen dozens of guinea fowl, pheasannt and peacocks on
our rounds here. The excellent clubhouse overlooks the 1st, 10th and 18th,
and the view gives a clear indication of the accuracy the course demands.
The Gary Player designed Erinvale golf course has fast become
renowned throughout the international golfingfratenity and hosted the 1996
IGA World Cup of Golf. It's a very beautiful course with the Hottentots
Holland Mountain Range to the east and the majestic Helderberg to the North.
A characteristic of the course is the bunkers are lined with railway sleepers,
which makes the need for accuracy even greater.
