Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas
Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas is
the oldest golf club in Spain. It's next to the crater of an ancient volcano
and there are great views of the surrounding areas. It's a fairly short course
with narrow fairways and small greens and this, along with the presence of
some deep ravines, means you need to concentrate on accuracy rather than power.
The course is located in the centre of the island, a little farther away than
its competitors, but we're sure anyone who plays here will have an enjoyable
round.

El Cortijo Club de Campo
Close to the city of Las Palmas, El Cortijo
offers a choice of six tees per hole, which in our opinion vastly increases
the variety and enjoyment of the course and means it can be comfortably played
whatever your ability. It's dotted with lakes and over 600 palm trees, some
of which are more than 100 years old. There are also some fabulous views of
the ocean. The dogleg 15th is our favourite hole - the small green slopes
back towards the water hazard which guards it, so a really precise approach
shot is required.

Maspalomas Golf Club
Maspalomas is one of the island's main tourist resorts and Campo de Golf de Maspalomas is close by and surrounded by sand dunes. It's long and flat and there's usually a gentle sea breeze to help you keep your cool even on the hottest and sunniest days. The most memorable hole is the deceptive 2nd, where the severe slopes of the fairway mean that the drop of your drive is hidden from sight. Once you've found your ball, you're then faced with a demanding approach to a green bordered by pine trees. A thoroughly enjoyable holiday course.

Salobre Golf Salobre is typical of this part of the island
in that it features many ravines and has volcanic soil. It's a fine course
that offers some lovely views of the mountains and the sea. Our favourite
hole is the 14th, which we reckon was inspired by the landscape of Arizona
- it feels like you're actually playing in the desert! The tee is extremely
elevated and the large green is surrounded by mountains and a stony, cactus-strewn
landscape. A little on the expensive side perhaps, but definitely worth
a visit.
