Area Description
For golf holidays Turkey has a magic all of its own and we find it is
pleasingly different from other Mediterranean holidays, perhaps because
of its culture and historical architecture.
All of the hotels we use for our golf holidays in Turkey are situated
in the Belek region, to the south-west of the country, between Antalaya
and Side (pronounced sea day). Belek is part of a newly developing tourist
region, but most of the landscape remains unspoilt and the golden sand
beach stretches for miles.
We believe this area is set to become a major golfing destination for
British golfers. It offers outstanding golf courses, first class five
star hotels with every facility imaginable, including water sports for
the whole family, plus hospitality that is second to none. When you consider
that you get all of this at prices that are cheaper than resorts of equal
quality elsewhere, then you can see the appeal and you can understand
our confidence in the area.
We’ve played all five championship courses in the area during
our many golf holidays in Turkey and they are of the highest standards.
Another course is due to open in November 2003 and more have been planned
for the Turkish Golf Riviera.
We found the main resort of Antalaya particularly exciting. It’s
about 30 minutes away from Belek and it has a reputation as a holiday
paradise. Take a walk around the town and it’s easy to see why.
It’s bathed in sunshine for 300 days a year, so it’s a perfect
choice for a winter break. It’s also Turkey’s liveliest holiday
spot with attractive palm-lined streets, beautiful parks, restaurants
and nightlife.
We fell in love with the Antalaya Kaleici Marina, which is considered
by many to be the loveliest marina in Turkey. You can spend hours wandering
around its many souvenir shops, relaxing in the friendly cafés
and restaurants, and watching the yachts bobbing gently at their moorings.
It’s a beautiful spot, flanked by the snow-capped Taurus mountains
and during the months of March and April you can ski in the morning and
golf or swim in the afternoons. How’s that for a full and satisfying
holiday?
We recommend you take some time to explore the Belek region’s
history. There are many ancient ruins and mythical stories connected with
the area. Our favourite is the story of the monster Chimera, who spewed
fire out of his mouth and lived in the mountains to the west of Antalaya.
The fire that can still be seen rising from Mount Olympus is said to come
from the mouth of Chimera. That would be a clever trick if it were true,
because the Lydian hero, Bellerofontes, cut the monster’s head off
with a sword. It’s a good story though.
Take our word for it. This golfing destination offers simply outstanding
value for money. You’ll stay in hotels of the highest standard and
play on some of the most memorable golf courses you’re ever likely
to encounter. Why not book one of our golf holidays in Turkey and find
out for yourself.
